landscape design & planning
Smith Residence:
Inspired by the images from a painting in which settlers seek refuge from the elements while waiting to cross a river the house and landscape also takes refuge behind a wall to protect it while also providing a dramatic sense of entry.
The residence is split into living and private areas requiring the owners to experience the outside environment when moving between the two.
Planting consists of all native species planted densely near the house then thinning out to blend with adjacent fields.
Local Greywacke stone is used to create the dry river bed which acts as a boundary separating the house from the wider landscape.

Par 5 Hole Redesign:
Proposed changes to the 8th hole, of Knaresborough Golf Course. A bland hole consisting of a wide fairway gradually narrowing to a flat green. The overall design philosophy is based on risk and reward and therefore the hole is shortened by 20 yards to encourage long approaches while accuracy off the tee is needed due to the addition of two new bunkers to the left of the fairway.
A third bunker on the right was added to tighten the fairway for long drives travelling further on firm ground.
The green is widened, deepened and contoured into two terraces and the back of it raised to entice long approach shots and for the surface to hold the ball. However, to make things interesting a long fourth bunker to the left of the green has been added.
