Wadi Restoration:

Part environmental, part urban design, restoration of the Wadi adjacent to central Medina required landscape, engineering, horticultural and construction skill.

Like most Wadis it's dry much of the year and in this case is a valuable public space allowing people to escape built up areas and enjoy the evenings in the open. In times of rain however, water gathered in the greater catchment area is channelled along the bed and in extreme flows can be up to 6 metres deep resulting in the design and construction needing to manage water flow and erosion damage.

Thurston Outdoor Center:

Located within the Lakes District National Park a means for disabled access was required from the parking lot to building entrance. Initially engineers suggested  an asphalt path however to avoid damaging tree roots an elevated boardwalk seemed more practical.

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site a revegetaion plan was also provided to ensure the character of the area was maintained.

Borough School:

School projects offer designers the ability to relive past childhoods because while most projects are designed at adult scale with kids it's a little different.

This school had a national environmental rating and therefore sustainability governed the design process resulting in the landscapes being as much a classroom as the buildings they surrounded.
